On the road again; I just can't wait to get on the road again. This song has been in my head all week long. I couldn't get through the work week fast enough--I have been so excited for our RV trip to Yellowstone!!

This marks our second family RV trip and this time we rented a Class A 35 ft something much bigger than the last rental. We are trying out different classes and sizes to see which one we prefer before we make our first purchase.
I have to say I enjoy this RV so much more than the last; mainly due to all of the space (it has 3 slide outs).

Of course since I was very excited I was up around 4 am Thursday morning getting everything ready for the trip. We were able to hit the road Thursday around 5:30 pm; we wanted to spend the evening driving and get out of Colorado Springs and completely out of Denver and all of the road work and construction so we wouldn't have to fight through so much morning work traffic on Friday.

Of course all of the popular spots in Yellowstone are all built up with museums, gift shops, convenience stores, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, etc. etc. It is definitely a huge tourist trap; a beautiful tourist trap but none the less a tourist trap.

Fishing Bridge RV Park
We stayed in Yellowstone which if at all possible is the best choice. You don't have to worry about making the drive in everyday from the neighboring towns which could take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on traffic. Yellowstone is very busy tons of tourist, tour buses, RV's, its crazy town especially in all of the popular spots. Since we were staying in Yellowstone we were able to wake up early enjoy the highlights in the morning without rushing and being stuck in traffic; it was nice.
The only downside to this RV park is that the sites do not have picnic tables, fire pits and garbage cans. It is located next to a bear habitat so none of these items are allowed. We travel with our portable grill so this didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves and firing up the barbie (we made certain to keep our site clean).
*Special Note: It costs $47.75 per night to stay at Fishing Bridge RV Park; which is a little pricier than most RV parks but you are paying for the convenience of being in Yellowstone.

Stopped at Buffalo Bill State Park for lunch which is about 20 minutes outside of Yellowstone right before you get to the town of Cody.
Boondocking
After this trip I feel like I can consider myself an official RV'er because we actually went "boondocking" twice! Thursday night we stayed in a Walmart parking lot (in some town I don't remember and Sunday night we stayed at the Walmart in Laramie. So now I'm official. :-)
I know it's not a field or in the forest but for first timers traveling as a family safety is key (I definitely didn't want to wake up to a coyote scratching at my window or some guy with a shot gun knocking on the door). Plus we always travel with our "security" just in case.
*Special Note: Boondocking or Wildlife Camping is parking your RV for free with no water, electric, or sewer hookups.

Sounds like a great trip! Thanks for sharing. Love the pics. I learned something new--didn't krone the meaning of boondocking--now I know!
