Passau, Germany

This is a beautiful town on the water where the Danube, Inn and IIz rivers intersect.  The town has an old centre look with a maze of cobble stone winding roads, underpasses and archways throughout the city center.

Getting There

Rorys on the train

This was a family day trip and we took the train from Beratzhausen to Passau; it took a little under 2 hours with one change.

*Special Note: The Bayern ticket is the most cost effective for this type of travel. It gives you unlimited travel for 24 hours anywhere in Bavaria (26 euro for entire family).*

Thee Rivers City Tour

Inside the boat

It was a 45 minute tour and their were quite a few people on the tour for it to be off season; despite the heavy wind at times it was a nice sunny day and a very relaxing way to get an overview of the city.  The tour guide speaks in German but you can get the English version from the ticket desk.
*Special Note: Make the Information Office one of your first stops (there are 2- one across the street from the train station and the other one next to the docks). Let them know you are going on the tour and they will give you a 10% discount coupon.*

Dom St. Stephan

Greindl

Just happened to come across this small shop as we were traveling down one of the narrow cobble stone roads. These were the best truffles I have ever tasted; with such a variety of exotic flavors. My only regret is that we didn't buy more.  If I would have known they were going to be that good I would have bought a whole case of them and stored them in the freezer!

City views from our table

This modern cafe-lounge is a definite must visit. You can catch the elevator from street level and ride all the way up to the top where the cafe is perched up high with some of the most amazing city views. Not only are the views great but the food is too.
